7:39 on the Morning show on a Friday, June 20th. Doug Wagner with you. Light rain Cedar Rapids and 70 degrees. 70 clear in Davenport, partly cloudy 71 in Iowa City. Overcast in Waterloo in 70 degrees. Light rain in Dubuque in 67 in the morning show. And Parmalee has been working on the Linn county gaming issue for quite some time. She’ll be joining me here in the next seven minutes.

Doug Wagner [00:00:25]:
Right now on the Denny’s Automotive and Muffler center newsmaker line, it is Joshua McNary from McNary Marketing. Find out more at McNary, I believe it’s McNary me. Is that correct?

Joshua McNary [00:00:37]:
That or McNary Marketing.com okay, there we go.

Doug Wagner [00:00:40]:
Either one of them. He sends out a regular email and I would encourage you to sign up for this email because it’s always interesting reading whether or not you are a business owner. This, the one he sent out yesterday was very interesting. I had to have him on the show to talk about this because you talk about uncertainty and choosing not to participate. Obviously, it’s so many things that have been going on in the lives of everyday Americans that you’re talking about here. Explain why you decided to come up with this one.

Joshua McNary [00:01:10]:
Sure. Well, this is a mantra that I’ve used over the years in my business, in life. I first heard Dave Ramsey talk about choosing not to participate in a recession. And I remember that really sticking with me years ago. And I’ve applied that to business and to aspects of life. So, I mean, I saw an article this week. They were talking about innovation and businesses, small businesses particularly, not being able to innovate because of the tariffs and such. And you know, this wasn’t meant to be a political statement here, what I was doing with it.

Joshua McNary [00:01:42]:
But the idea was like what can we as individuals, we as business owners, we as community members, what can we participate in? What can we choose to participate in rather than than being by osmosis, pushed into being pushed around by the exterior things going on around us.

Doug Wagner [00:02:01]:
And it’s really interesting because you talk about really 1, 2, 3 big things right here and you say number one, stay focused on what you can control.

Joshua McNary [00:02:11]:
Absolutely. I mean, it’s the another book I read many years ago date myself a little bit here, Stephen Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. He talks about the sphere of influence. I mean, what can you actually influence all these negative things coming at us again in the world or in our business, Some of those things, many of those things we cannot control and they’re just out there and gaining our attention it’s even worse than years ago when Covey wrote that book. Right. Because of all the media that comes at us constantly on our devices and such. But what can we actually control? And let’s think about that and focus on that. And that was what that first point was really about.

Doug Wagner [00:02:48]:
Yeah, and it was really one of those things. Like it’s one of those brilliant things. Second thing you say is, don’t be a victim of the moment. What does that mean?

Joshua McNary [00:02:58]:
Well, I mean, this is kind of another way of saying this maybe just is to avoid the victim mentality. I mean, the idea of feeling trapped, feeling like we have no power in a situation. And I mean, again, there’s certain things in the world that are going on today that, you know, out overseas, other places that we can’t really control. But what we can’t control is what’s right in front of us here right now and our lives, our families and things happening in our businesses. And if we’re having the right perspective on that sphere of influence that we’re talking about before then, we can step back and we don’t have to feel like a victim anymore. We can feel like we have some power in what we can do to improve our situation. And eventually the people around us will benefit from that, too.

Doug Wagner [00:03:42]:
He’s your biz tech pal, Joshua McNary of McNary Marketing. And one of the things that both you and I know is that there are people that you and I know are familiar with respect that have just allowed themselves to become unglued temporarily. This is the kind of thing that you send out here that can help re more people to get them back into a space where they are on solid ground, I think, which is where we prefer everybody to be for the most part.

Joshua McNary [00:04:12]:
And I’m not always perfect either, but this kind of thinking helps us, and that’s why I love to send out this kind of stuff.

Doug Wagner [00:04:18]:
All right, McNaryMarketing.com find out more about Joshua McNary there. Sir. Have a fabulous weekend and stay cool. Okay, you too.

Joshua McNary [00:04:26]:

Doug Wagner [00:04:27]:
