It’s not news (we hope) that mobile technology rules the day. If you expect success, you simply must incorporate mobile web functionality into your business model. That may be an app, a mobile-optimized website, both or even a combination of primarily mobile-minded strategies.
Be mobile-minded. Too often, we see a strategy employed where a mobile version of a site is developed after the fact. Perhaps the existing website is “optimized” for mobile functionality, or perhaps there is one of those annoying button links embedded somewhere enabling the user to choose whether they are viewing on a mobile device or a computer. These strategies have quickly become obsolete, and we see the mobile-as-afterthought problem as cart-before horse. Whether you’re working to create a brand new site for a new business or organization, or you’re refreshing an existing web presence – approach the endeavor with mobile in mind.
Think beyond the app. It’s certainly true that many business models are well-suited to actual application development, but not all. Whether or not there’s an app for what your business is offering, we’re suggesting that you think about apps differently. Think Apple’s trademark phrase, “There’s an app for that.” Consider the types of apps that are already out there and how they may relate to the work you do or the product you sell. This ties back into mobile-mindedness…
